What do all the settings on the A1Monitor global program settings dialog mean?
A1Monitor Settings Menu (Monitor Interval Tab)
A1Monitor Starup Wait:
- A1Monitor will wait this many minutes before starting to monitor the Server list after A1Monitor is started.
- This is useful when you have A1Monitor installed on the NT machine that's running your web server. Usually, A1Monitor will start before all the web server services have started. Therefore, the Server will not be reached for a minute or so. If you set this value to 1-2 minutes, you won't get a Server failure in the LOG each time the server is restarted.
- Also, after a Server failure occurs, if you choose to let A1Monitor continue to monitor, it will wait this many minutes before starting to monitor after a Server failure. This is useful if you issue a command to reboot a remote computer and want to give your server a minute or two to restart.
Server List Retry Interval:
- Set this number to how many seconds you want to wait (the server list interval). e.g set to 60 if you want the list of servers checked every minute.
Slow Response Timeout:
- Slow response is NOT counted or considered a Server Failure.
- If your Server WAS reached, but it took longer than this many seconds, it will be logged. This just controls how much goes in your log. It will give you a good idea of when your server is responding poorly.
- If you set this to zero, every time the Server is retrieved, the time will be logged.
- If your server has scheduled backups, see the scheduled down time section.
"Upon Server Failure, shutdown and restart this computer" checkbox:
- You should only select this checkbox if you have installed A1Monitor on your NT 4.x machine that is running your web server.
- The machine will reboot after the Server can't be reached (after 3 tries in a row or whatever you have configured.
- If you choose this option, you'll need to ensure A1Monitor starts again (choose the "Make A1Monitor run as an NT service" option).
Test Button:
- This will test whether A1Monitor can successfully shutdown and restart your computer (works for both NT and 95). You may want to test this if you choose the "Upon Server failure, shutdown and restart..." checkbox. This would be useful when you install A1Monitor on the same computer that's running the web server.

Andy Hilton - www. totallybrilliant. com
A1Monitor just works - and it has been 'just working' for years for me ! It sits on my server and quietly monitors my clients servers and just lets me know if ever they go offline - I cannot tell you how many clients are amazed when I call up within minutes after a problem occurs and fix whatever their issue is....one of the best investments I have ever made...highly recommend it to anyone needing to watch any other computers.......
