Popup Killer : Network MonitorScreen Shot
The following screen comes up when you run A1Monitor. You can minimize the program to the system tray. It will stay in the system tray the next time you run A1Monitor.

Type in the names of the servers you want to monitor. A1Monitor watches those servers to make sure they are running properly. If any of them can't be reached a number of times in a row, you get email/pager notification, and any executable or batch file (multiple exe's) can be run for you. You can even have A1Monitor reboot the machine it's installed on, or a remote NT computer.

Main A1Monitor Window

  • This is the A1Monitor Main Window. It shows you the list of servers you are monitoring and their status.
  • To minimize A1Monitor, click the [X] in the upper right hand corner of the A1Monitor Window
  • You can double click on any server entry on the list to edit that server information
  • A1Monitor will sort the list such that the server next to be monitored will be at the top.
  • Each server entry can be monitored on its own interval (15 seconds, 77 seconds, 5.4 hours). A1Monitor sorts the list so you know who's getting monitored netxt!
  • You can specify text you want A1Monitor to scan for to make sure your web server isn't causing errors like "Server Too Busy".
  • If the Server can't be reached or doesn't return the text you expected a number of times in a row (you specify this number), A1Monitor can take action by sending you an email notification, and if you wish, running a batch file or executable and/or restarting your web server.
  • Please visit our HELP page for more detailed information.

System Tray Menu (by the clock)

Each Server has individual settings.

  • Specify connection data for each server (http, https, ftp, telnet, or any port number you choose etc.)
  • You can type in extra descriptive "pretty name" text so it's easier to see what's happening on the main A1Monitor status server list window.
  • Specify email addresses you want notified when server failures occur on the Email Notify tab.
  • Specify times when the server is down (when you don't want monitoring to occur) on the Down Time tab.
  • Specify username and password when URL (http, https) basic authentication is required on the Url Authentication tab.
  • Specify text that must be returned from your server (which indicates success).
  • Do the opposite: Specify text that if returned, indicates failure on the Url Scan Text tab. (e.g. "Server Too Busy"). This feature is available for http and https request only (web servers). See Below

When failures occur, A1Monitor Alerts you.

  • Separate each email with ";" i.e. you@yourcom.com; you2@yourco.com

Pause A1Monitor while you're servers are down.

  • Downtimes occur each day. Future versions will have better scheduling capability.

Some http pages require basic authentication.

  • Enter your username and password here

Scan for text that must be there, or text that indicates failure.

  • Choose a button to enter text that must be in the response, or text that might indicate and error.

Run a command or batch file when your server goes down (like reboot or restart service). Run another when the server comes back up (like add me to the load balancer).

  • Choose a button to enter batch files or programs those need to be fun when server is up or down.

Error text can signal it's time for a reboot.

  • You could enter text like "Server Too Busy".
  • Take up to 10 different specific actions A1Monitor can take based on different server responses.

Global program settings.

  • Let's say you monitor your sever every 15 minutes, but want to try it twice to make sure it's really down. The "after first server failure, retry again in xx minutes" lets you set a value (such as 1 minute). This way, if the server fails once, it will be tried again one minute later (rather than 15). That way you can say "try it 3 times" and you will know within 17 minutes that you clearly have a failure.
  • You can tell A1Monitor to reboot the server it's running on depending on whether all or ONE or more servers fail.
  • Quickly check for newer versions of A1Monitor. If there is one, close A1Monitor, download, and install. All previous settings (including remembering you're registered) will remain (won't be uninstalled or written over).

SMTP email settings. UserName and Password authentication supported.

  • Choose a primary smtp server (where email notifications get sent)
  • Choose a backup smtp server (in case the primary is down)
  • Adjust for time zone variations at your location.
